Design brief
Help food lovers clear the mist off a retro map, visit by visit, so they keep trying somewhere new.
01 · Brief
Same street. Same few places.
I wrote the brief for food lovers: a retro map under mist that clears as they visit.
02 · Directions
Three takes on retro.
I had agents build a postcard atlas, a night scope and a 16-bit game map.
03 · Prototype
A map that clears as you walk.
Playable at a desk with a simulated walk, and I had the mist clear right behind you.
Paper, pixels, then a scope.
Checked against
15
test questions from the sprint and two follow-ups, which I answered myself.
From a misty first open to the tally.
What worked
- 01The fog clearly hides things, so the reveal lands.
- 02Plain text with pixel accents stayed easy to read.
- 03Every visit shows up as a stamp and +3%.
What I’d change
- 01Check that people actually go somewhere new.
- 02Ask for an “I’m here” tap on arrival.
- 03Try it on one real neighbourhood’s streets first.
