Design brief

Help homeowners scan their home room by room into a floor plan so they can plan changes with accurate sizes.

01 · Brief

Every renovation needs the room sizes.

I wrote the brief for homeowners who need room sizes they can trust enough to plan with.

02 · Directions

Three looks for one sample home.

Agents built three directions in parallel, each with the same five rooms, so I could compare them.

03 · Prototype

Scan, review, then plan.

A simulated scan finds each wall, then the saved room is drawn into the plan.

A tool, a poster, a drawing set.

Checked against

15

test questions from the sprint, walked through myself, plus one follow-up.

From no rooms to three.

What worked

  1. 01A familiar, calm look meant less to learn.
  2. 02The plan shows each room’s size with one tap.
  3. 03Finishing on three walls, with an estimate, kept it moving.

What I’d change

  1. 01Design how rooms join before anything else.
  2. 02Coach first-time scanners while they scan.
  3. 03Check accuracy on phones without a depth sensor.
